China Steel Corporation (CSC), located in Kaohsiung, Taiwan, was established in December 1971. Its annual output of crude steel is about 10 million metric tons. The main products are steel plates, bars, wire rods, hot-rolled and cold-rolled coils, electrogalvanized coils, electrical steel coils, and hot-dip galvanized steel coils. It is currently the largest domestic steel manufacturer with a domestic market share of more than 50%. About 65.2% of its products are domestically consumed and 34.8% exported mostly to Mainland China (Hong Kong included), Japan, and Southeast Asia.
CSC is very active in innovation and has strong capability to put the innovations into practice. The company’s vision is “We aspire to be a trustworthy steel company of global distinction that pursues growth, environmental protection, energy saving and value-innovation.” CSC actively puts in practice its corporate values of “teamwork, entrepreneurial approach, down-to-earthness and pursuit of innovation”, as well as its operational concepts of “promotion of social well-being, result orientation, implementation of teamwork, and emphasis on employees’ self-realization.” Apart from continuing to cultivate in the steel industry, CSC is also committed to assisting the related downstream industries to upgrade and enhance the overall international competitiveness of the steel industry.
CSC had been granted numerous awards over the years, including the 1991 National Quality Award by the Executive Yuan, the 2009 National Industrial Innovation Award by MOEA, the Leading Company Award by worldsteel due to its excellent performance in production maintenance and sustainable operations in 2013, an industrial leader in the Dow Jones Sustainability Index (DJSI) in 2013, a constituent of the FTSE4Good Index in 2017, the Gold Class of the Sustainability Award by RobecoSAM in 2014 and 2018, the Sustainability Leaders Award by BSI in 2018 and 2019, and the 2020 Sustainable Resilience Award by BSI. All of the aforementioned awards showed that CSC was well recognized domestically and internationally in terms of its R&D innovations, production maintenance, and sustainable development.

To bring out the overall operational synergy, CSC group has diversified and reinvested in a total of 23 main subsidiaries. In February, 2021, the CSC Promotion Team for Energy Conservation, Carbon Reduction, and Carbon Neutralization was established. It will strive to introduce and develop all kinds of techniques that will save energy and reduce carbon emissions with the goal of achieving carbon neutrality by 2050. Moreover, CSC will implement environmental, social, and corporate governance (ESG) tasks and contribute to the sustainable development of Taiwan’s industries, economy, and society.
